I remember when I first did some very initial birth training, I took a course where we watched a video called Baby Led Breastfeeding. The whole class of us “ooooohed” and “aaaahhhed” in amazement as newborn and older babies instinctively found the breast without being forcefully latched on by a care provider.
At the end of the video, our instructor said, “Yes, after all this time, finally we have a short documentary to prove that human babies are as smart as puppies!”.
After she said this, we realized how silly it is that we never question whether a kitten or puppy will figure out how to feed from it’s mother, or if it’s mother will know how to feed it’s babies. But for some reason, with humans, all that trust in nature flies out the window.
