The Importance of Natural Home Birth

I just found a good video I had stored away in my “to read / watch” files. My friend’s 2 year old sun cuddled up and watched it with me; at the end he said “well, that was very interesting!”… although perhaps he just likes the moving images on a screen, I like to think he integrated a BIT of the talk! 😉

In the video, midwife Carol Flint talks about the power women feel in natural birth, compares birth to sex and talks about what happens when we try to control birth. Definitely worth a watch:

Even for women using birth hypnosis shouting and swearing in labour is a fabulous release of tension and part of the Rite of Passage – it’s not wrong to do it…everyone has their own way of coping!

Women definitely all of their way of coping, and birthing loudly is just as beautiful as birthing quietly! Although, I don’t typically see women -hypnosis or otherwise- shouting and screaming during birth! (Actually, I don’t think I have EVER seen a client scream in pain!!!) I do often see women making strong, powerful toning, moaning, or groaning noises that can be really helpful for them!

Awesome video!! I love her enthusiasm and she makes some excellent points (and is hilarious). “at the moment, the whole paradigm of birth is tragic”. Couldn’t agree more (in the context of hospital systems and protocols).
