Birth Inspiration As You Prepare For Birth

I would consider moments of my birth experience to be orgasmic, but not in the typical sense, more like heart orgasms, like when I felt my son enter my birth canal right before crowning, that was a total heart orgasm, the coolest thing ever. We need more definitions for these kinds of things I think! Like the word Pain, I wouldn’t specifically associate with labor or contractions, not to say it’s a walk in the park or anything, but that is not the right word for this process ~ Leah Fisher

The humanization of childbirth does not represent a romantic return to the past, nor a devaluation of technology. Rather, it offers an ecological and sustainable pathway to the future. ~ Ricardo Herbert Jones, Obstetrician

When a woman gives birth, she has to reach down inside herself and give more than she thought she had. The limits of her existence are stretched. There is a moment when every woman thinks, “I can‘t do this.” If she is lucky, she has a midwife, a doula or her mom to whisper in her ear, “You are doing it.” As she does it, she becomes someone new: a mother. ~ Pam Udy

There is power that comes to women when they give birth. They don’t ask for it, it simply invades them. Accumulates like clouds on the horizon and passes through, carrying the child with it. ~ Sheryl Feldman

Having a highly trained obstetrical surgeon attend a normal birth is analogous to having a pediatric surgeon babysit a healthy 2-year-old. ~ M. Wagner

There is a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong. ~ Laura Stavoe

“Let” and “doctor” should only be in the same sentence when saying, “I got bored waiting for my lab results and the doctor let me build a fort out of waiting room chairs and paper gowns.” ~Unknown author

Words of Birth Wisdom For Birth Professionals

“You are a birth servant. Do good without show or fuss. If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge. When the baby is born, they will rightly say: ‘We did it ourselves!’ ~from the Tao Te Ching

When staff believe that labor pain equals suffering, they convey that belief to the woman and her partner, and, instead of offering support and guidance for comfort, they offer pain medication. If that’s the only option, women will grasp for it. ~ Penny Simkin

I really like the quote from M Wagner….makes a lot of sense! I found quotes helpful that I could remember, say & use during my actual birth. We recently put a few in one spot & made a Mama Manifesto. Being able to say these helped me ‘get through’ in different times of pregnancy & birth. I’ll share it here in hopes it’ll help some other mamas >> Hope it helps!
